| Mumbai – IndiGo, India’s largest and fastest-growing airline, marked a significant milestone as it finalized a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, converting its previous Memorandum of Understanding signed in June into a committed deal. With this decisive move, IndiGo now boasts a total of 60 A350s on order, signaling a bold strategic shift as the airline gears up for long-haul international expansion. Traditionally renowned for its dominance in India’s domestic and short-to-medium haul routes, IndiGo’s latest order marks a pivotal shift in its operational focus. The addition of the cutting-edge Airbus A350-900 to its fleet reaffirms IndiGo’s aspirations of connecting India with major global markets, including Europe, North America, and beyond. The aircraft’s advanced engineering, extended range, and fuel efficiency uniquely position IndiGo to enter high-demand intercontinental routes with confidence. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, described Friday as “a special day” for the airline. He emphasized IndiGo’s growing confidence in both Indian aviation and its enduring partnership with Airbus: “The conversion of this MoU into a firm order for 30 additional A350-900s is a testament to our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and our strategic partnership with Airbus, further reinforced by the strong start of our long-haul operations.” Elbers added that the order directly supports India’s broader vision of becoming a global aviation hub and advances IndiGo’s goal to be a leading international airline by 2030. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business at Airbus, noted that the A350’s fuel efficiency, range and passenger comfort align with IndiGo’s growth plans and international network ambitions. “This milestone reinforces our strong partnership with one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world, and we look forward to supporting their expansion into new long-haul markets,” said Saint-Exupéry. The A350 is the world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft in the 300-410 seater category. The A350’s includes state-of-the-art technologies and aerodynamics delivering unmatched standards of efficiency and comfort. Its new generation engines and use of lightweight materials bring a 25 per cent advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, compared to previous generation competitor aircraft. As with all Airbus aircraft, the A350 is already capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims for all its aircraft to be 100% SAF-capable by 2030. At the end of September 2025, the A350 had won more than 1,400 orders from 63 customers worldwide. |
