| Patna – The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday reached an agreement on seat-sharing formula for the upcoming 243-memeber Bihar Assembly Elections, in which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and BJP will contest 101 seats each while Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party will field candidates on 29 seats. Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) have been allotted six seats each. JDU National Executive President Sanjay Kumar Jha shared the information on social media platform ‘X’. Sanjay Jha stated that leaders and worker from all NDA parties welcome this decision with joy and are determined and united to re-elect Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with a landslide majority. He wrote on his ‘X’ handle – “Bihar is ready, NDA government again”. Union Minister Chirag Paswan expressed confidence in the alliance’s strength, declaring that Bihar is ready for another NDA government. “We, the NDA family, have completed the seat-sharing for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 in a cordial environment. Bihar is ready — Once again an NDA government, This time with full strength alongside #BiharFirstBihariFirst!” he wrote on ‘X’. Paswan’s remark comes days after several media reports claimed that he was demanding around 40 seats for his party. However, Paswan refuted all such claims, saying that the talks were taking place in a “positive manner”. For the first time in Bihar’s electoral history, the BJP and JD(U) will contest an equal number of seats—101 each—in the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections. This marks a major shift in the state’s political equation, as Nitish Kumar’s party has traditionally contested a larger share whenever the two parties have been in alliance. In 2020 Assembly elections, the JDU contested on 115 seats while BJP had fielded candidates on 110. The Lok Janshakti Party had contested on 135 seats and Hindustani Awam Morcha was given 7 seats. The assembly elections will be held on November 6 and 11, and the counting will take place on November 14. |
